The Major Gifts Team at Action Against Hunger-USA seeks a Leadership Gifts Associate to join the team’s efforts in raising $5 million+ annually from major private donors, the board of directors, and a strong network of donor prospects capable of giving gifts of $10,000 or more.  

 
The ideal candidate has strong writing, project management, and people skills. They enjoy telling a story, especially a story that can move hearts and minds. They are organized and self-directed, with a track record of successful project management and problem solving. They’re not scared to pick up the phone, dig deep, and be persistent. This is a fundraising role that offers a dynamic growth and learning opportunity for someone eager to develop a career as a front-line giving officer. This position will report directly to the Associate Director of Major Gifts. 


Key activities in your role will include

Donor Support/Writing   

As needed, provide support for major and corporate donors that may include:  

  • Drafting stewardship pieces such as emails, reports, or focus pieces highlighting an area of our work  

  • Preparing briefings for external prospect and donor meetings, and for internal strategy meetings 

  • Identifying restricted funding opportunities and developing them into donor-friendly concept notes 

  • Assisting with the development and design of donor-facing collateral such as emails, appeals, impact statements, etc. 

  • Tracking outgoing solicitations by the Associate Director of Major Gifts and other gift officers and monitoring gift receipts 

  • Conducting initial high-level research on new and existing donors using available research subscription tools such as BeenVerified and DonorSearch  

  • Completing special assignments as needed 

 

Board and Advisory Council Coordination 

Support the Associate Director of Major Gifts and Advisory Council Liaison in coordinating with the Board of Directors and Advisory Council 

  • Assisting with Board solicitations and fundraising 

  • Helping respond to Board or Advisory Council requests that arise 

  • Creating and designing PowerPoint presentations for meetings 

  • Helping schedule fundraising calls with the Board and Advisory Council 

  • Planning Advisory Council engagement events and opportunities with the Advisory Council Liaison  

  • Coordinating updates for quarterly reporting to board 

 Administrative Support  

Support fundraising teams on administrative tasks as needed, including but not limited to:  

  • Maintaining and updating donor records in Raiser’s Edge 

  • Managing data requests and coordination with the data systems team  

  • Liaising on the donor research queue and data needs with external consultants 

  • Tracking and updating data points related to donor communications and solicitations  

  • Tracking items on the Major Gifts strategic engagement calendar, including reporting deadlines 

  • Drafting team meeting agendas and scheduling meetings across teams 

 Events Management Support  

Provide support for a range of in-person and virtual events that support donor and prospect engagement. Duties include, but are not limited to:  

  • Helping create and overseeing invitation lists 

  • Tracking RSVP’s of board members, donors, and other key stakeholders 

  • Liaising as needed with events teams and external consultants 

  • Supporting VIPs at events 

  • Building relationships with prospects at and following events 

  • Inputting event-related donor data into Raiser’s Edge

Do you meet the profile required criteria?

Required Qualifications  

Bachelor’s Degree required 

 Required Skills & Experience  

  • 1-2 years of Fundraising and/or customer service experience preferred  

  • Non-profit experience preferred  

  • CRM/Raisers Edge experience preferred 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint 

  • Strong social and relationship-building skills  

  • Strong writing and storytelling skills, writing samples requested 

  • Ability to answer questions on the spot, think on one’s feet, and remain calm and directed in high-stress situations

Gross annual starting salary : $50,000-$53,000
